Summer 2010 Elephant Collaring Season
FIELD JOURNAL UPDATED 9 JULY 2010. A family emergency has called Dr. Loomis home to the United States. The team's work in northern Korup has been cut short, and a planned trip to Ngoila- Mintom will be rescheduled.

Elephant Tracking with Google Earth

Cameroon Field Diary: May 2009
UPDATED 17 AUGUST 2009 Dr. Mike Loomis, Chief Veterinarian at the North Carolina Zoological Park, will be working with his colleagues at World Wildlife Fund to deploy satellite collars on elephants in Cameroon. For May 2009, the team will be located in Korup National Park and in the Ngoila-Mintom region. Field Trip Earth will be tracking the team's progress and posting Dr. Loomis's field journal.

Final Elephant Maps
Dr. Loomis and his team have collared thirty individual elephants and three bongos. Twenty-seven of those elephants are no longer transmitting data. However, we have gained critical knowledge from the data they provided and the resulting maps.

January 2009 Elephant Field Season Underway
NEWSFLASH! The team successfully collared a female elephant on Mount Cameroon on 8 January 2009. Additional details are available in the field diary, and more information will be added as it becomes available.

Dr. Mike Loomis and his WWF colleagues have begun the January 2009 elephant collaring season. They will be working on Mount Cameroon initially, followed by an effort in Korup National Park, which lies on the Nigerian border.
